Dozens of Palestinians wounded by Israeli bombings in Gaza are now seeking treatment at East Jerusalem hospitals.

Occupied East Jerusalem - More than 50 Palestinians are being treated at hospitals in East Jerusalem after sustaining injuries during the ongoing Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip.

The process to enter East Jerusalem from Gaza is long and arduous, and only a small number of Palestinian patients received permission from the Israeli authorities to reach the city since Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip began over three weeks ago.

At the Israeli-controlled Erez crossing, many of the injured waited hours and were interrogated before they were allowed to cross.

Some of those in need of treatment said the Israeli soldiers had tried to convince them to stay in the field hospital Israel has set up at the crossing, or suggested that they go to Israeli hospitals, instead of Palestinian-run hospitals in East Jerusalem.

At Saint Joseph and Al-Makkased hospitals, hundreds of Palestinians have come to visit the injured, bringing them sweets and gifts for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

On July 29, Zehir al-Najar, a six-year old Palestinian boy from the Gaza Strip, died at Saint Joseph hospital from injuries sustained during an Israeli military strike on Khan Younes.
