Muslim Consultative Committee Established

A forum represented by several Muslim organizations and individuals, which will be an apolitical body, has been established as the Muslim Consultative Committee, states a release from the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka(MCSL).

The release adds: The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) convened a meeting of Muslim civil society members, religious leaders, businesspersons, academics and professionals with the objective of building consensus within the Muslim community and establishing a Muslim Consultative Committee. This Committee comprising of over 75 prominent members of the Muslim society will address short, medium and long-term interests of the community in Sri Lanka, particularly recognizing the need for a response to contemporary challenges faced by Sri Lankan Muslims, while promoting peaceful coexistence in the country.

MCSL president N.M. Ameen at the inaugural meeting of the Muslim Consultative Meeting, emphasized that while recognizing the need to meet challenges faced by Muslims in Sri Lanka the importance of interacting with all ethnic communities in the country to promote the Sri Lankan identity, while respecting diversity in multi - cultural Sri Lanka.

The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka is an umbrella organization comprising over fifty independent network organizations. It has been in the forefront in addressing issues of the Muslim community through advocacy and lobbying with the government, political and religious leaders to find amicable and sustainable solutions to challenges faced by the community, while promoting understanding and strengthening ties with all Sri Lankans.

Do we really need to respond to the provocations and hated campaigns of this tiny group of extremists in SriLanka? Much has been said and written about them in various news papers and TV broadcasting. It has been highlighted in recent media presentation and press release. Reading through what has been said and written about them I could notice that there are two schools of thought in our response to the provocations and activities of this group. One school of thought argues that BBS should be left on its own and we should not respond to their provocation and activities. It will meet its doom day naturally.

Company suspends employee who posted hate messages

An employee of a respected Sri Lankan company was suspended for a month after an inquiry found him guilty of sprouting racial hatred and sexually derogatory remarks on Facebook.

This is the first time in Lanka where a private sector company had taken action against an employee over his adverse conduct on a social media portal.

At the inquiry conducted by the Human Resources Department of a premier tourism company -- Eco Team (Pvt) Ltd., the employee was found guilty and suspended from work for a month, CEO Anuruddha Bandara said yesterday.

After abandoning his far-right party to embrace Islam, a former colleague of Dutch politician Geert Wilders has visited the holy lands in Saudi Arabia to perform his first `Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) in his life.

“If any person told me that I will visit the land of the two holy shrines, I would have told him that he must be insane,” Arnoud Van Doorn told Al-Madinah newspaper.

“Finding Islam is a dream came true,” a tearful Doorn added.

Doorn, a member of the far-right Freedom Party (PVV) has embraced Islam earlier this year after an extensive study into the religion.

He was among party leaders who helped produce an offensive film titled Fitna that linked Islam and the Qur’an to violence.

‘‘காரியங்களின் போது (நபியே) நீர் அவர்களிடம் ஆலோசனை கேட்பீராக (42:38) என்று அல்லாஹ் தனது தூதருக்கு கட்டளை பிறப்பிக்கின்றான். இந்த அல்குர்ஆன் வசனம் ஆலோசனைகளை (ஷூரா) செய்வதன் அவசியத்தை உணர்த்தப் போதுமானதாகும். நபி(ஸல்) அவர்கள் ஏதாவது ஒரு விடயத்தில் முடிவொன்றை எடுப்பதற்கு அல்லாஹ் அல்குர்ஆனின் வசனங்களை இறக்கி வழிகாட்டலாம். அதுவும் இல்லாத போது அவர்கள் அல்லாஹ்வின் உள்ளார்ந்த வழிகாட்டலின் பேரில் சுயமாக முடிவுகளை எடுக்கலாம். தனது தோழர்களின் அபிப்பிராயங்களைப் பெற வேண்டிய தேவை எதுவுமில்லை . அப்படியிருந்தும் தோழர்களிடம் ஆலோசனை செய்யுங்கள் என்ற கட்டளை நபி(ஸல்) அவர்களிடம் ஆலோசிக்கும் பண்பும் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதை வலியுறுத்துவதுடன் நபி(ஸல்) அவர்களுக்குப் பின்னால் வரும் தலைவர்களும் பொறுப்புக்களை வகிப்பவர்களும் நபி ஸல் அவர்களை முன்மாதிரியாகக் கொண்டு பிறரது கருத்துக்களை கேட்டறிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பதை கட்டாயப்படுத்துகிறது.

வஹீயினால்மாத்திரம் தீர்மானிக்க முடியுமான விடயங்கள் உள்ளன. அவற்றில் ஷூரா செய்ய முடியாது. ஆனால் மனித சிந்தனைக்கு சுதந்திரம் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ள இஜ்திஹாதுக்கு உட்பட்ட விடயங்களில் ஆலோசனை பெறவும் வழங்கவும் முடியும்.

In this series I shall try to introduce the biography of the prophet Muhammad to our Non-Muslim readership. Most of the Non-Muslim people have got wrong perceptions about the life and accomplishment of the prophet Muhammad.   In some cases we can not blame them all for this misperception. This is because they have come to know the biographical account of the prophet Muhammad through the writing of some bias writers toward Islam and Muslims.  Today, misperceptions about Islam and its prophet are wide spread in all formats: Since Prophet Muhammad received his prophethood from Almighty Allah in the cave Hira the antagonism and accusation toward his message began. It is not a new social phenomenon that Islam and Muslims encounter problems and challenges when Muslims reach out with the message of Islam to any Non- Muslim community today, yet, it is importance to know how to face some of these challenges and problems and how to repulse some of these accusations.

Historical origins of Srilankan Muslims:

It is pathetic that some extremist Buddhist people are protesting against Muslims in Srilanka today for no reason. Muslim people have been accused of many social issues. They have done nothing wrong in Srilankan history and they have been accusing of spreading fundamentalism in Sirlanka . They have been accused of supporting al-Qaida. They have been accused of supporting Taliban. They have been accusing of building more mosques in Srilanka. They have been accused of marrying Singhalese girls. They have been accused of increasing their population. They have been accused of accumulating money by selling Halal food.  They have been accused of forcing Buddhist people to eat halal food. They have been accused of being disloyal to Srilanka. This list of accusations could go on countless. But the entire Muslim community is innocent from all these allegations and accusations. There may have been some misunderstanding in some of these issues and yet, such misunderstanding should be clarified: We all need some clarity of thought on these issues: some of these issues are exaggerated and inflated very much by the some extreme people.

Hundreds of articles have been written in all three languages during the past few months analysing from every possible angle the United States sponsored United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution against Sri Lanka on alleged human rights violations during the final days of the government’s war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam-LTTE.

However there was hardly an article dealing with the role played by Muslim countries in supporting Sri

Lanka. Most of these countries are actually American allies. This happened last year too when the resolution calling on Sri Lanka to investigate alleged human rights violations was passed by 24 votes to 15 with 8 abstentions.

Patriotism, allegiance and loyalty of Srilankan Muslims to Mother Lanka: Part: 1. - by Dr Rifai Naleemi. UK

It is imperative to examine and gauge the true nature of Muslims’ patriotism to mother lanka. Particularly, this is a timely needed subject in the context of prevailing current debates about Muslim people in Srilanka. Muslim population in Srilanka according to the recent census constitutes 9. 2%. Do they really have loyalty and allegiance to this land? Do they love this land as the majority people of the land do? Or do they have loyalty to another land in the world map? Do they belong to Saudi or Pakistan or do they belong to somewhere else.

A strange mystery   has been created in the mind of some people that minority people do not belong to this Island. It has been debated by some people in utter an arrogant to say that this country belongs only to the majority people alone.
